Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ, is  the only hospital in the country to receive the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for 2004. Two of their achievements include a 90 percent patient satisfaction rating in the emergency department (ED) during 2004. In addition, the hospital was one of the first in the nation to implement a "15/30" program, which promises that all patients in the ED would see a nurse within 15 minutes and a physician within 30 minutes. Pretty cool.

Recent Picis acquisition, Ibex, is the hospital's ED information system for managing emergency room overcrowding.  I'm sure Ibex made an important contribution.  But two other factors eclipse the contribution made by Ibex:  the hospital's ability to minimize downstream bottlenecks that cause emergency room overcrowding, and their ability to implement and effectively use their Ibex Pulse Check system.
