The Minneapolis St Paul Business Journal reports that St. Jude and Lumedx have integrated the Merlin pacemaker programmer with Lumedx cardiovascular information system (CVIS). Pacemaker clinics have been integrated with clinical information systems for years, but as medical devices incorporate more open technologies (a PC architecture running Linux, in this case) rich integration with the medical device becomes more feasible.
It is notable that Lumedx and (especially) St Jude are promoting this. St Jude issued the press release, and Lumedx is promoting the integration on their home page and via an email promo. I can remember back when pacemaker companies couldn't have cared less about clinical information systems.
